Background of Biophysics

Biology tries to understand the diversity of the living world and the process through which living things lead their lives. How do the animals collect food, develop relations with one another, perceive the environment and reproduce all these are the subject matter of biology.

On the other hand, the laws followed by the physical world of nature and the simple mathematical explanations of those laws are the subject matter of physics. It may seem that there is no link between the simplicity of physics and the complexity of biology.

But with the advancement of science, and depending on its different branches, a relation has been established between biology and physics. This new field has been named biophysics. Biophysics employs the simple and mathematical laws of physics in the complex processes of biology and thus investigates various mysteries of life. Biophysics is the bridge between biology and physics.

Biophysics in one way can identify the arrangement of atoms and molecules in DNA or protein; similarly, it can invent cancer treatments or artificial kidneys using technology. There is no doubt that biophysics can also play a significant role in controlling environmental pollution and thus save the biodiversity of the future world.

Why is the charge of alpha particle positive?

An alpha particle consists of two protons and two neutrons. Proton is positively charged and neutron is charged neutral. That's why the charge of an alpha particle is positive.

Why dye is used in angiography?

Angiography is used to see the blood vessels of the body using an x-ray. As blood vessels can't be seen properly by doing normal x-ray, a special contrast material is entered into the vessels. A catheter is entered into the body to inject dye at the part of the vessel that needs to be examined. After injected dye to a specific part is taken. Due to the presence of the dye, the blood vessels can be seen clearly in an x-ray. The dye is later filtered by the kidney and passes out of the body by urine.

Which experiment is more secure for testing on bile stone?

Ultrasonography is safer in detecting gall bladder stone. It is safer than x-ray. Because in x-ray, radioactive rays are used which might be very harmful in some cases. On the other hand, the ultrasonic rays used in ultrasonography is less harmful and that's why safer than x-rays.

What type of signal used in video conferencing?

The signals of video conferences are sent by electromagnetic waves. We know that electromagnetic waves are analogue signals. That's why the signals are received and transmitted by analogue systems but the signals used by the electronics for conference are digital signals.

Human body is like an organic machine - explain.

The statement 'the human body is like an organic machine' draws an analogy between the human body and a machine to highlight certain similarities in their functioning and organization.

Comparing the human body to an organic machine emphasizes its structured organization, with specialized components and systems working in harmony to perform various functions. Both entities require a source of energy for operation, undergo maintenance and repair processes, and manage waste products. However, it's crucial to recognize that the human body's complexity far surpasses that of any machine, as it possesses the remarkable ability to adapt, learn, and maintain homeostasis in response to dynamic internal and external factors.
