What is solenoid?
Solenoid is a cylindrical coil of wire which creates a magnetic field like a bar magnet when electricity flows in it.
Why step-up transformer is used to transfer current for long distance?
When current flows through a resistance, heat is generated and this is the loss fo electrical energy. This loss is called system loss. If electricity is supplied at high voltage then for definite electrical energy, the loss is reduced because of resistive heat energy. That's why Electricity produced in the power plants is transformed into high voltage using step-up transformers. Before distributing the electricity produced in the power plants in transformers. Before distributing the electrical energy for customer use, the electrical energy for customer use, the electrical supply is again brought down to a suitable voltage using a step-down transformer. Thus this helps to reduce the system loss.
