How to get into Kelly School of Business

The Kelley School of Business is a highly-ranked business school at Indiana University Bloomington. It is known for its strong academics, rigorous coursework, and excellent career outcomes. As a result, it is also a very competitive school to get into.

There are two ways to get into the Kelley School of Business: direct admission and standard admission.

Direct admission is offered to first-year students who meet the following criteria:

  • High school GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Minimum SAT score of 1170 (EBRW and M scores only; does not include Writing test) with a Math score of 530 or higher
  • ACT composite score of 24 with a Math score of 21 or higher

Standard admission is available to all IU Bloomington students who have completed at least 30 credit hours of coursework. To be eligible for standard admission, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 in all IU Bloomington coursework and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all business coursework.

If you do not meet the criteria for direct admission, you can still apply to the Kelley School of Business through standard admission. However, the admissions process for standard admission is more competitive. The admissions committee will consider your GPA, coursework, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation.

Here are some tips for getting into the Kelley School of Business:

  • Get good grades. Grades are the most important factor in the admissions process. Aim to get A's and B's in all of your classes, especially in your business classes.
  • Take challenging coursework. Take as many AP and IB classes as you can in high school. This will show the admissions committee that you are capable of handling rigorous coursework.
  • Get involved in extracurricular activities. Get involved in business-related extracurricular activities, such as the National Honor Society, the business club, or the DECA club. This will show the admissions committee that you are passionate about business.
  • Write strong essays. The essays on your application are a great way to show the admissions committee who you are and why you want to attend the Kelley School of Business. Take your time writing your essays and make sure they are well-written and informative.
  • Get good letters of recommendation. Ask teachers, counselors, and mentors who know you well to write letters of recommendation for you. These letters should highlight your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and personal qualities.

Getting into the Kelley School of Business is competitive, but it is possible with hard work and dedication. Follow the tips above and you will be well on your way to achieving your goal.
