Why is 2d orbital not possible?

A 2d orbital is not possible because the angular momentum quantum number (l) can only have values from 0 to n-1, where n is the principal quantum number. In the case of a 2d orbital, n = 2, so l can only have values of 0 and 1. A d-orbital requires l = 2, which is not possible for n = 2.

Therefore, a 2d orbital does not exist.
