What is haloform reaction?

The Haloform reaction is a chemical reaction in which a haloform (CHX3, where X is a halogen) is produced from the reaction of a halogen (e.g. chlorine or iodine) with a methyl ketone or secondary alcohol in the presence of a strong base. The reaction is an example of nucleophilic substitution and produces three carbon atoms and one halogen atom in the haloform.
